FINDING PEACE IN A WORLD OF CHAOS

Too many people want attention,not enough want respect
Too many people get lost in the crowd,not enough care to stand out
Too many people want the easy way out,not enough want to work their way through
The world can be pretty tough sometimes;
Failed promises,dashed hopes,betrayed trust,shattered dreams, broken homes,conflicts,disappointments.
In all of this,NEVER GIVE UP!!!
Bear no grudges
Keep hatred out of your heart and your life
Love generously,expecting nothing in return
Believe in your dreams and live your DREAM
Do what you love doing and LAUGH as much as you can
Nobody can ever be you
You are a unique creation
Never be afraid to cry
Never be afraid of going slowly
Be only afraid of standing still
Inside you is a STRENGTH so rare,so profound,so beautiful
Always keep this in mind;
When your mind says give up,HOPE whispers one more try.

FACIAL COUTURE - STAND OUT!!! MAKE UP

Make-up is used to highlight ones good features and cover up flaws for an over all perfect look.
Make Up Artistry is gradually gaining grounds in Ghana,unlike a few years back, people have started to appreciate the work of a Make Up Artist (MUA).
One MUA on a steady rise is Barbie Mantey Frempong Armah , CEO of Facial Couture, a new make up house in Accra,Ghana.

 I decided to find out from Barbie how it all began and she had this to say;

          " I have always loved fashion, styling,beauty and makeup. I would find myself self reading beauty magazines, watching fashion and style channels a lot, trying to figure out the details of a particular look.
I then decided to enroll with ReneeQ for Renee's first makeup class in August 2012. Upon completion i started getting jobs, and the encouragement from family and friends inspired me so much.
I had my little work book where i wrote down all my business plans,therefore starting business was not difficult at all. My key focus is currently establishing my company and building a very successful brand."

Facial Couture provides invaluable makeup services to diverse life events including weddings, photoshoots,fashion shows, proms etc. and their main specialization is bridal and beauty makeovers.
 As an emerging MUA, the quality of her work already speaks for itself,perfect colour combination with a touch of finese.

" I have been working for the past six months,and i am more than grateful to God for how far He has brought me.....oohh and my hubby too, he has been amazing." Barbie said.

I got curious and asked Barbie what else she does apart from being a MUA,and she had this to say;
"I'm a mum and a wife...now that's a full time job..just kidding.I'm hoping to get back to my first love,that's being a radio presenter but for now i still do voice overs for radio and tv commercials."

 Interesting huh? well that was what i thought..........very interesting i must say.
According to Barbie,her inspiration comes from life and the stories behind people.
Every makeup job is as unique as the individual it is applied to. Anything can inspire her, from the structure of a persons face to its texture and colour.

You can contact her for your make up needs if you are in Ghana or whenever you come to Ghana,you won't be disappointed.

WHY CANT I PLAY LIKE EVERYONE ELSE???

Hearing of the sudden demise of Maame Serwaa,my childhood friend got me thinking about Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) all over again. It's a genetic blood disorder characterised by excessive breakdown of red blood cells,leading to inadequate supply of blood to vital body organs
In my line of work,I've had to nurse many patients with SCD and i must admit, it's not easy!!! not for  the patient, their families and even us.
It's sad that through no fault of theirs,people go through such a traumatic experience.I feel there hasn't been enough education about this condition and most people still have no idea about it's seriousness and implications.
A few things you should know about SCD;
  • Sickle cell disease affects millions throughout the world. It is particularly common among people whose ancestors come from Sub-Saharan Africa, South America, Cuba, Central America, Saudi Arabia, India, and Mediterranean countries such as Turkey, Greece, and Italy. In the Unites States, it affects around 72,000 people, most of whose ancestors come from Africa. The disease occurs in about 1 in every 500 African-American births and 1 in every 1000 to 1400 Hispanic-American births. About 2 million Americans, or 1 in 12 African Americans, carry the sickle cell allele.
  • .patients inherit two sickle cell genes,one from each parent
  • . If one parent has sickle-cell anaemia (SS) and the other has sickle-cell trait then there is a 50% chance of a child's having SCD and a 50% chance of a child's having sickle-cell trait. When both parents have sickle-cell trait a child has a 25% chance of SCD
  • The only cure for SCD is bone marrow transplant,and this has many complications which includes death.

We could help reduce its prevalence by checking our sickling status and that of our partners before thinking of marriage.
Yeah!!! I know you are in LOVE and all ,but trust me, love is the last thing you'll be thinking of when you start rushing a child in crisis to the hospital.
When you have to rush from work because your child fell sick in school, or even waking up in the middle of the night to rush them to hospital, that's no life at all.

It puts so much strain in on families,psychologically, physically and financially and there's usually no time to relax and have fun.
Yeah!!! I know it''s tough to break up,but can you imagine your child not being a normal,healthy , happy baby? Or your child not being able to play like every other child because any vigorous exercise will result in a crisis?

Let us keep spreading and sharing this information with our friends and family.
There are various causes of mortality,some we can't do anything about, but with SCD we can definitely do something about it.
I've seen so many beautiful, intelligent children and young people succumb to death as a result of SCD.

I have also seen the worry,pain and tears parents go through.
Let's put no child through this, every child deserves to be healthy and happy.
let's not put ourselves through this as well. We deserve to be happy too.......

                                                            Love......Laurie
