DAY 7, KAHMUNE : 59 DAYS OF GHANAIAN FASHION

 You can imagine my excitement when I came across this brand on my Instagram because finding anything in a nude shade meant for a black girl can be a nightmare.
 Actually I followed a post on Jamila Acheampong's page and I was pleasantly surprised.

I first met Jamila ( she's the creative director of this brand) some years back at a Blogging Ghana event a couple of years ago,I am super proud of her and knew this brand had to be part of 59 Days of Ghanaian Fashion. So on Day 7, I introduce to you KAHMUNE, barely a year old but this shoe brand has been featured in Elle USA and on several online portals.

KAHMUNE pronounced "com.mune" is a luxury line offering an array of footwear styles designed to match the skin tones of ALL women.

Their core values are;
  1. Representation: We stand for the women that both historically and currently do not see themselves embodied in the fashion and beauty industries.
  2.  Diversity:We stand for ALL women. All shades are beautiful! and
  3.  Inclusion: We stand for the representation of under served communities. It's time we made sure all women have a seat at the table regardless of their complexion.
According to Jamila;

 "The idea behind KAHMUNE was born in February 2016. Whilst browsing social media in search of “nude” clothes and accessories I noticed that the term always drew the same results."

"Although I was in search of items that matched my dark skin tone, all I kept coming across were the same beige, cream, and tan shades.

It was overtly clear that “nude” had a type. My Dad has always said that 'some of the best business ideas are the ones that solve a problem'. The fact that the term “nude” is attributed to a specific shade is a problem. KAHMUNE was born as a long overdue solution.

We have spent countless hours researching shades in order to ensure that we are able to serve the majority of complexions around the globe. At present, we offer our styles in 10 colors ranging from the fairest of skin tones to the darkest of brown."

And how amazing are these names for the different shades , Rio, Edinburg, Juba, Gaborone, Enugu, Douala, Kumasi, Goa and Bogota.

When I asked where she saw her brand in the next 5 years, Jamila had this to say;

"I would love to make Kahmune a global brand and a household brand. Hopefully we'll have a few flagship stores around the globe as well. In terms of the products, the sky is the limit when it comes to shoes so my aim is for us to carry at least 50 styles! Maybe clothing? Cosmetics? Never say never!"

MY FUSION DE WOODIN ROMPER

October was a really interesting month and a very busy one for Ghana fashion and African fashion in general as we had one fashion week after the other, and some happening at the same time.
Well! Lets leave that for another day.

I stepped out in confidence last weekend dressed in this versatile Woodin Romper from their Fusion Collection.
Rompers are generally worn as casuals, but I wore it to a corporate event and felt right at home, thanks to the style and the length of the shorts.

And again I got away with minimal styling as the bold and beautiful print gave me little work to do (I am not complaining).

My favourite thing about this outfit will have to be the fabric, its ethnic yet modern look.

Woodin fabrics are not only a modern interpretation of African culture and arts but also reflect a modern cosmopolitan lifestyle; a perfect bridge between the young and the old.

Walk into any Woodin retail store closest to you (NB Woodin has retail shops in over 8 African countries), get your ready-to-wear outfits for that special occasion or even for work,and shop in comfort and style.

Still thinking of other places I'm going to rock this outfit to :-)
Tag me in your fusion outfits when you post them.....xxx

CASUAL CHIC DAYS

There are days when the mood calls for a more laid back style, casual with a bit of spice.
I call them the "eat your cake and have it" days.

You are thinking of comfort but not exactly!
You want to look good but you're not ready to dig out pieces and mix and match etc.

On such days you can bet on a blazer, or some cool accessories or heels to bail you out.

This Woodin FUSION Pret-a-porter shorts and top combination is a trendy casual pair.
The colourful and neutral print mix makes it interesting enough to be noticed yet not over the top.

This piece was fun to style because the print made sure I could get away with no accessories :-) . I opted for an ankle strap heel instead to elevate the look a bit more and make it appropriate for a party or a semi- formal function.

And again this outfit is available in different prints and sizes in Woodin shops.
You can also find other shorts and top combinations , some with sleeves and designs that will suit your style and personality.

Don't forget to tag me in your Pret-a-porter outfit photos.

PRINT PALAZZO JUMPSUIT

Nothing beats an effortlessly chic look and this halter palazzo jumpsuit got me feeling exactly that way.

This extremely flattering 70’s style is one of the pieces recently outdoored by Woodin for their FUSION Collection.

Woodin is part of the Vlisco group, and has over the last 30 years risen to be a favourite for both the young and old through their creativity and dynamic designs.

Woodin has proven to be a truly African brand as their fabrics reflect Africa's rich culture and art.

The FUSION Collection features a limited edition ready-to-wear outfits that are trendy and affordable.

The coolest thing about FUSION for me is that the fabrics are made exclusively for the collection and are not sold on the market. Awesome right ?

I got to style four pieces from FUSION, this is the first one and I can't wait to show you the other three.

What do you think about wide-legged jumpsuits though?

Would you wear them?

I kept this look really simple and chic , it didn't  need much accessories as the outfit is a statement on its own( and also because I don't do a lot of jewelry).
A nice earring and a clutch should complete this look.

Let me know what you think about this look :-)
